Forróçacana strikes high again!

Forróçacana strikes

The forró musicians changed labels and release their second CD full of morale. They made it by a narrow margin, but they're still here. Forróçacana has just released its second album, named after the group, and remains firm as one of the strongest names in Rio forró. Now with the gears in their favor — it's their first CD on Sony — they intend to keep moving forward, forró flag in hand. "Sony had already been courting us at the time of the first album. But we had a contract in force and nothing was happening.

When the commitment ended, we signed with them," says Marcos Molleta, who plays rabeca, mandolin and guitar. With a new home, Forróçacana could do what they wanted. "We showed the material we had, said which studio we wanted to record in, asked for production to be ours. They accepted," he celebrates.

The confidence may come from the morale a group that started in '97, when forró hadn't exploded yet, and built its audience through shows has. "What we want is to consolidate the career. We started playing for pleasure and that's why it's important we have an audience," he believes. Thinking that way, they decided to prioritize other markets when scheduling the tour. "We're going to play now in the South and Northeast. We want more and more people to know our work," he says.

Because of that, Forróçacana has even been to Europe. "We played in France and Portugal. We just got back from the USA. We want to make forró a worldwide thing. So when someone talks about Brazil, the foreigner answers 'samba, forró!'" Marcos dreams. It could work, especially considering they were even nominated for the Latin Grammy. "Now it's a fresh start. Only we have more attention. We'll take advantage and play," he warns.
