Maranhão Roots Reggae, a festival held inSão Luis, “Jamaica Brasileira”, on the 23rd and 24th of July this year, featured very significant attractions from the World and National Reggae. A great structure was set up with many stores selling Reggae-related products, parking, medical center, cabins, restaurants and two stages named after style icons,Bob MarleyandJustin Hinds. The festival also featured traditional radio stations fromItamaratyand At the festival, the bands took turns on two main stages, theBob Marleystage, in honor of the king, who is undoubtedly the biggest reggae icon in the world, and theJustin Hindsstage, who passed away on March 17, 2005, from cancer, and who also participated in the first edition ofMaranhão Roots Reggae Festivalin 2001. Multicenter, the venue chosen for the show, is on a well-located and busy avenue in theCalhauneighborhood, where people were able to enjoy bands and radio stations from 5pm to 5am the next day. Talking a little about the presentations, the ones that stood out the most from the international ones werePablo Moses,Eric DonaldsonandDennis Alcapone. Of all the foreign artists, only Pablo played with his own band, who came to Brazil exclusively to do the show atMaranhão Roots Reggae Festival.Pablo Mosesvibrated throughout the show and showed the Brazilian public that he is in top shape. The singer also said that Brazil andSão Luisare very similar toKingstonand some Caribbean cities.
What most captivated the public, as expected, wasEric Donaldson, an idol inSão Luis, perhaps the place where the artist is most successful across the planet. The impression given is that Brazil has enormous potential for hosting major events like this, which will only make Reggae grow in the country. Without a doubt,Maranhão Roots Reggaeis the biggest reggae festival in the country, which in addition to the great icons of national and global reggae, gives opportunities to local bands and singers, such as:Beto Pereira,Santa Cruz,Banda Legenda,Alê MunizandLuciana Simões.Santa Cruzsays that this festival serves to promote the big names in Maranhão reggae.Beto Pereira, says that it is a shame to look atSão Luisonly at these festivals, and not see that this is a reflection of the work of these warriors from Maranhão who makeSão Luisthe Brazilian Jamaica.  Click here and see some photos from the event.
