Reggae at the turn of the year! Check the lineup for this year's Virada Cultural!
The complete program of the cultural event that will take place from May 2nd at 18:00 until the 3rd at 18:00 has been released. Many names involved in reggae/strands will be performing at various points on Virada Cultural spread across São Paulo. The main stage of Virada will be set up at Avenida São João. Just like last year. Praça da República will have a stage dedicated only to rock, while samba-rock and gafieira will be the soundtrack of the stage set up in Avenida Rio Branco. Teatro Municipal, fresh from renovation, will also be the stage for performances. Another highlight is the stage dedicated to Raul Seixas. Set up nearby Estação da Luz, it will have several artists performing all of the singer's albums in full. According to the mayor of São Paulo, Gilberto Kassab, the reduction in the event's budget - from R$6 million to R$ 4,5 million - will not harm the program. "The Virada Cultural has not diminished either in size or in importance", he stated, at the festival's presentation ceremony. According to him, the forecast is that attendance will even increase compared to last year. This year, for the first time, Virada will take place in the middle of a long holiday. The president of São Paulo Turismo, Caio Carvalho, predicts that the city will receive 330 thousand tourists during the event weekend. The reggae rhythm will also be represented at this Virada.
