Confirmed: legendary Jamaican King Stitt has died, one of the pioneers of Sound Systems!
King Stitt, one of the greatest legends of Jamaican music, one of the pioneering DJs of the time, began his career in 1956 on the Sir Coxsone Downbeat Sound System (by Coxsone Dodd, also now deceased). Rumors recently circulated that he had passed away, even being reported by personal friends. However, Stitt was actually in extremely poor health. Stitt was one of the first to record as a DJ, rhyming and improvising on the basis of songs, giving rise to the so-called first Rap in history. The 71 year old man passed away at his home in St. Andrew, Jamaica on Tuesday, 31/01/2012. The legend was in Brazil in October 2011 where he performed at the Jamboree Party, which does a great job of bringing together several legends from the foundation of Jamaican music, many unfortunately little known to the general public.
