Jamaican producer Philip Smart loses his battle with cancer! Check it out on Surforeggae.

Cancer took another major Jamaican producer. Philip Smart, who produced among other big names Shaggy, Johnny Clarke and Yabby You, passed away on February 25th from pancreatic cancer. Smart got into music through Augustus Pablo, the melodic genius who lived in his same neighborhood in Kingston. He then became a sound and DUB scholar, migrating to the USA at the end of the 70s, establishing a studio that became a reference for Reggae artists. The producer left behind his wife and only son, Phillip.
