Vinil Festival 3! Maranhão event brings together the country's biggest names in vinyl DJing!

There is no doubt that reggae is the world's most beloved style. Another true statement is that Maranhão is the home of the rhythm in Brazil, the favorite among residents of the outskirts of São Luís. Rooted in local culture, reggae has a relationship of nearly 50 years with the state.

ITS ORIGINS AND STORIES

There are many versions about reggae's arrival in São Luís. Told by sound system owners, collectors, DJs, dancers, and hosts of reggae radio shows, the stories point to the rhythm arriving on Maranhão soil as early as the first half of the 1970s. It is believed the gateway was the Porto do Itaqui and the Baixada Maranhense, brought by sailors from French Guiana. Locals traded goods with these sailors and received in return records now considered true gems.

Now in its third edition, Vinil Festival 3 will again deliver the unmistakable sound mass of "bolachões" with the best of world reggae, especially from its golden era. Promoted by Rasta Reggae/Circuito Rasta Reggae and Neco Pedra, the event will gather 21 teams, totaling 42 turntables and more than 50 DJs.
