A TRIBO DO REGGAE! Documentary revives memories of reggae from Maranhão!
The year was 1987 and it began at the School for the Blind of Maranhão with an unexpected meeting between visually impaired students and a radio broadcaster from São Paulo who was passionate about roots reggae. This and many other stories are in the documentary “A Tribo do Reggae”, directed by Beto Matuck, which will be made available on 06/08 at 17:40 on Tribo de Jah’s YouTube channel.

It was a great gift for me to be part of the production of this documentary. The creative process lasted 9 months, and began from a conversation I had with Fauzi, who had a dream of documenting the history of Tribo de Jah through a focus on the history of reggae from Maranhão” - Matuck said. The film tries to show poetically how São Luís became the Capital of Reggae, recovering memories and bringing the public references and great names of the rhythm’s precursors in the state.

Fans can expect a lot of music and many “stones”, as people from Maranhão already know. The film is affectionate and will surely strike the hearts of people from Maranhão and reggae lovers both in Brazil and around the world” - Matuck concluded. The documentary, which began with the concert celebrating the band’s 30th anniversary in September of last year, is part of a cultural project sponsored by CEMAR through the Cultural Incentive Law. It was carried out by Jah System Produções in partnership with Grupo Oito Comunicação.
