Social criticism and fake news permeate the rhetoric of MCs from São Paulo and Salvador in this clip/single, which is pure high-voltage energy.
The Bahian pagodão meets ghettotech, rock, global bass and the political and social discourse of Monkey Jhayam. Those who create the sound bed for the simian's conscious verses are DJ B8 and the powerful Afrocidade. Bang!

In the midst of the current apocalyptic scenario in Brazil, the music developed little by little and with each confirmation of the text with some real-life event, we understood that the music had to have a name to express this moment in history. The name “2020 Volts” then came up to mark what that year was, which marks both the end and the beginning of a new decade”, says Monkey Jhayam.
The singer, songwriter and notorious MC in the South American sound system/dancehall scene remembers his first connection with the Bahians of Afrocidade, in 2016.
They posted a video of a rehearsal playing a version in Bahian pagodão of a song of mine called ‘Homem da Babilônia’. I was faced with energy”, he says.
Energy, for this feat, is little. It's 2020 VOLTS!

The lyrics denounce the wave of false information that spreads easily through cell phone messages, data manipulation and the entire network flow collected by malicious companies that aim to control the masses. This mass, which includes all citizens. “I’m in the middle of the moio too”, sing Monkey Jhayam and MC DO, lead singer of the Bahian combo Afrocidade.
The denunciation of this team is festive. The sound is the perfect soundtrack for a political carnival or an afropunk pogo circle. This complaint portrays the unfortunate moment in Brazil: from the fascist discourse of the executive power, through the unprecedented destruction of the environment to the genocide in the hoods and the disregard for health and science.
