Errol Barrett, known as Akila Barrett, is a singer, musician and songwriter, son of the late Carlton Barrett, drummer of the original Wailers lineup, who accompanied Bob Marley throughout his career, and also nephew of Aston Barrett, bassist of the group that continues to this day carrying Marley's message. Music has always been in Akila's blood, since his birth. Most of his knowledge of life came from growing up with his father and uncle around the most famous creators of Jamaican Reggae.

He began his career in 1994 as the drummer for Julian Marley's band. Over the last 6 years he has developed his talent as a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and his stage performance skills. Akila spends much of his time with an acoustic guitar by his side, always discovering his unique voice and style. His first release, "Human Race", caused major repercussions on radio, at shows and in magazines in Jamaica, Africa, Ghana, London and France. The single was distributed by his own label, "One Drop Muzic", and features Wailers musician Junior Marvin as lead guitarist. Finally, Akila brought all his experiences and talent together on an album, which was recorded at Tuff Gong Studio.

There, he gathered some of Jamaica's finest veteran musicians, such as The Wailers, Earl Chinna Smith, Leroy Horsemouth Wallace, Desi Jones, Ibo Cooper, Dean Frazer and Glen Brownie. The album, which was named "Changing People", is a hypnotic blend of Roots Rock Reggae with elements of DUB. Akila is undoubtedly one of the greatest talents of the new generation of Jamaican musicians. He even sang with the Wailers for a time in 2006 during the United States tour. If you still do not know the artist, hurry and check out his sound; you certainly will not regret it.
