Born Alberto D’Ascola, Alborosie is an Italian musician, born in Sicily. He is a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, bass, drums and piano. His musical career began in Reggae National Tickets, a reggae band formed by him at the age of 15. Later he went to Jamaica, in 2001, drawn by Rastafari culture, where he also began working as a sound engineer and producer. Alborosie began his musical career in Italy, before going to Jamaica; there he was known mainly for the music produced by Reggae National Tickets, a reggae group of which Alborosie (who was previously known as Stena) was the leader.
After the experience with the R.N.Ts. group came to an end, he decided to take a journey to discover the roots of reggae and Rastafari culture. There he was well accepted in Kingston's musical circle and achieved great success, not only in Jamaica but around the rest of the world, with singles such as "Kingston Town" and above all "Herbalist". In 2000, he accepted a job as a sound engineer in Port Antonio, at GeeJam, in the studio of wealthy producer John Baker, in the middle of the jungle. "Albo" then recorded many international "stars" such as Sade, Eve, Wyclef, Amy Winehouse, among others. Soon he already had his own label, Forward Records. With the help of his manager, Specialist, he set up his studio in Kingston in the popular neighborhood of Barbican, and also earned the respect of local reggae icons, recording with Sizzla, Jah Cure, Mykal Rose, U-Roy, etc. He also became known - and mainly so - for his production skills, working with major names in Jamaican reggae such as Angie Stone, Les Nubian and Manu Chao.
His first solo album is "Soul Pirate", released in 2008. In addition, he took part in many collaborations, as a producer for artists of the caliber of 50 Cent and Shakira.
