Formed in 2002, Alma Zion has musical influences in Reggae, Dub, Ska, Groove, Gospel and MPB. The group’s musical objective is to bring, through music, a spiritual connection with God, and from there came the name Alma Zion: the soul rising to Zion (Sião), the mountain where God dwells spiritually.
The group lived for two years in São Sebastião, on the northern coast of São Paulo, where it took part in the Summer Festival (2006) and received the awards for best vocalist, best bassist and second place overall at the IV Festival da Canção in São Sebastião. In 2007 it competed for the awards for Best Independent Band and Breakthrough Band; through Circuito Reggae, one of its tracks, “Sodoma & gomorra”, was chosen to be part of the CD “As melhores do Johnny B.Good”, with distribution throughout Brazil.
