Apart from the stereotype of the 2000s music audience, the public has not seen or heard much from Andrew, the eldest son of reggae legend Peter Tosh. Andrew Tosh, a written copy of Peter (their physical resemblance is incredible), was destined to continue the family's musical tradition since his powerful performance at his father's funeral in 1987, where he gained recognition. It is a gift he carries proudly and continues to exercise deservedly.
Born in June 1967, Andrew was always encouraged musically by his famous father and recorded his first single in 1985 in Jamaica. However, at Peter Tosh's assassination two years later, Andrew moved everyone by singing his father's songs with great feeling, such as "Jah Guide" and "Equal Rights" at the funeral. Later, Andrew Tosh received the tutelage of Peter's musicians and stage colleagues, especially keyboardist Keith Sterling (creator of the band World Sound and Power), to continue his father's work with them.
Andrew recorded his first album "Original Man" of Peter Tosh covers in 1988. It was re-released and remixed with several additional versions in 1994 by Heartbeat Records. The album "Make Place for the Youth" from 1989, his first of original compositions, was recognized with a Grammy Awards nomination. Andrew also followed in his father's footsteps touring with the band World Sound and Power until the early 90s. In addition, his tours at that time often featured the participation of his uncle, Bunny Wailer (ex-The Wailers).
Recently, Andrew performed at the Summerfest Festival, organized by producer Zola Estouro, alongside Maxi Priest, Kymani and Toots Hibbert in Fort Lauderdale FLA, Ocean's City MD and Philadelphia PA. However, Andrew has been quite busy dedicating himself to composing and creating new songs. His latest album, entitled "Focus", is in the final stages.
Andrew has been working between New York and Los Angeles and also has approximately four songs to compose together with Sly & Robbie in Jamaica. Over the last two years Andrew has dedicated himself to a special tribute in honor of his father, performing with local bands. A type of show where Andrew embodies Peter Tosh's old songs, in addition to his own.
Andrew also composed the single for his father "Pay Day", which is on the CD "Reggae Blitz – a special featuring great names in world reggae such as Wailing Souls and Bunny Rugs of Third World. When away from shows, Andrew (33 years old), father of 5 children, devotes himself to his children. Along with this, Andrew, the eldest of a family of 10 siblings (5 boys and 5 girls), besides shows, has been working to develop a Peter Tosh museum in Belmont, Westmoreland, and to care for Peter's estate and its beneficiaries. With his strong reputation and great stage presence, Andrew Tosh, like Ziggy Marley, is the shining light of the new generation of Jamaican reggae.
