Good Soul, Well-Being, Happiness: That is the meaning of the word Angatu, which originates from the Tupi language. The band creates a new Reggae without losing sight of the original essence of the Jamaican style, mixing influences ranging from New Roots to Ska, with a touch of Dub, Jazz and Brazilian Music. The proposal is to produce quality music that carries positive vibrations. Recently released on the internet in August/2014, the CD 'A Vida Que Eu Sempre Quis', the band's first, featured vocal appearances by Jamaicans Kim Pommell and Shareda S. Sharpe (Groundation), and by gaúchos Pablo 'See A Rasta' (Rutera), Leonardo 'Frodo' Barbosa (Brilho da Lata), Fyah Rocha and Danilo Beccaccia (from the band Angela Beatriz).
Created by Pedro 'Pedrada' Angi (Vocals) and Cristian Jonatan (Drums and Backing Vocals), Angatu is also formed by Gabriel Boos (Bass), Vito Lorenzoni (Sax and Flute), Edu Palhoça (Trombone and Backing Vocals) and Thiago Beck (Keyboards). The first public performance was in October 2013, and since then the band has been performing frequently in Florianópolis and surroundings. The founders of Angatu were also part of the founding of the now defunct band Cultivo, and follow the original vibe of the old band, mixing Roots Reggae with Brazilian influences, always focused on a positive, intelligent and constructive message.
"We believe that music has the power to help people transform their lives for the better, and we hope to contribute in this way so that peace, balance and freedom may prevail on Earth. We are grateful to be part of this path".
