Army (Fritzmaurice Williams) was born and raised in St. Croix, Virgin Islands. He began his musical journey at five years old as a member of the youth choir of the church his family attended. Back then, he had little idea he was laying the foundation for what would become a promising musical career. Determined to explore a range of styles, he learned to play saxophone, becoming a member of a jazz band. After moving to New York to complete his studies and having served in the U.S. Army (from which he took his stage name), Army returned home and became deeply involved with the local reggae scene.

In the early 1970s, Jamaica was bubbling with an impressive amount of talent. The same level of energy, enthusiasm and potential is present today in the Virgin Islands. Army is one of the many excellent singers and musicians from St. Croix who deserve international recognition. His breakthrough in the world came with his third album "Rasta Awake", a roots reggae masterpiece, with the track "I don't know" included on Bambu Station's compilation "Talkin' Roots II". Army's voice is unique and sounds at once full of energy and tranquility. Inspired by names such as Nat King Cole, Dennis Brown and Freddie McGregor, Army says that music is the cure, and feels that it has taken him to places he would not necessarily have gone without it.
