Gilberto Gil: the Brazilian responsible for making Jamaican reggae popular in Brazil

Read article

Cidade Negra, a nationally recognized Reggae band with soul and pop rock influences on the road since 1986, emerged in Baixada Fluminense-RJ, bringing lyrics of love and social conflict in its songs. In 2008, singer Toni Garrido announced his departure from Cidade Negra to refresh his career as an artist. Besides music, Toni Garrido also acted in soap operas. Like him, the other members, Lazão and Bino, likewise pursued other parallel projects, but the priority was always Cidade Negra, which never stopped.

In mid-November 2010, Toni Garrido reunited with Lazão (drums) and Bino Farias (bass), they talked and the rapprochement was quite spontaneous, as everyone missed that good energy. From there to rehearsals everything went very quickly. Last December, the lineup began playing and the first single "NINGUÉM PODE DUVIDAR DE JAH".

In May 2011 a new single emerged winning over the whole band: "DIAMANTES" is already playing on some radio stations in Brazil, even before release. Cidade Negra is finishing its album of new songs, always with positive music that speaks of love and also with a touch of political and social awareness, a hallmark of the band.
