Brazilian reggae in the 2000s: the decade that consolidated new bands and expanded the national scene

Read article

Formed in 2005, the duo from Maringá, Cidade Verde Sounds, has been making a lot of noise wherever they go. Adonai sings and composes the songs, Dub Mastor is the wizard behind the arrangements, backing tracks and live mixing, bringing a unique experience to those who have never heard the sound.

With a legion of fans across the country, the duo has already racked up performances from the south to the north of Brazil, highlighted by opening shows on Dezarie reggae diva's tour in September 2013, and opening for Alpha Blondy and The Wailers, respectively on the biggest stages in Rio de Janeiro, Circo Voador and Fundição Progresso. And it's not just in Brazil that the duo's name is growing — they performed twice in Costa Rica, where the song "Real Ganjaman" is played on the radio daily.

The duo's first CD came out in 2011, called "Reggae Presidente", featuring special guests Eek a Mouse, Ranking Joe and Sizzla Kalonji; the song and music video "Faroeste" is now the most viewed on YouTube and already has more than 350 thousand views.

In September 2013, the second CD, "MISSÃO DE PAZ", was released. The single bearing the same name as the CD reached 25 thousand views in less than three days. The innovation of the CD came through heavyweight partnerships, with Dean Fraser on horns, Fitzroy Green (Alborosie's drummer) and Jamaican musicians who gave Cidade Verde a new face.

Highlights include the songs "No Coca", "Até o Fim", "Plantando Ganja" featuring these internationally experienced musicians, and "Fazendeiro de Apartamento" and "Ta Difícil esquecer" which had previously been released as singles.
In addition to the Jamaicans, the CD also features the group Oriente on the song "Eu meto o pé" and Junior Dread on the song "Mais esperança".

On social media, growth is constant; the Facebook page already has thousands upon thousands of fans and continues to gain admirers at an accelerated pace.
