Damian Marley (Kingston, July 21, 1978) is a Jamaican singer. He is Bob Marley's fourth son. Damian didn't spend much time with his father, who died when Damian was two years old. Also called "Jr. Gong", he is the son of former Miss World Cindy Breakspeare and the 11th member of Bob Marley's offspring.
He began his career at the age of 13, was part of the group The Shepherds, recorded his first solo single called "Dj Degree". In 1996 he released his first album, "Mr. Marley". The second, "Halfway Tree" released in 2001, won him the Grammy for best reggae album. With "Welcome to Jamrock", Damian achieved recognition for the quality of his sound.
Damian Marley departs from the classic reggae coordinates to, through a fusion with R&B, Hip-Hop and Dancehall, create his own sound, with lyrics strongly marked by social criticism. She recorded the song "Cruise Control" in partnership with American singer Mariah Carey, for the diva's album called "E=MC²".
In September 2011, the 1st album by the band SuperHeavy was released, of which Damian is one of the members, along with Mick Jagger, Dave Stewart, Joss Stone and A. R. Rahman. Damian Marley, born Damian Robert Nesta Marley, nicknamed "Jr. Gong" in honor of his legendary father, Bob "Tuff Gong" Marley, is a Rastafarian, and his music reflects both his Rastafarian convictions and guiding principles of love, the planet, and freedom for all people. As he travels most of the year, his home is divided between Kingston, Miami, Florida and other cities.
