The experienced drummer Shigemoto Nanao (Dry) and the no less brilliant bassist Takeshi Akimoto (Heavy) formed Dry & Heavy in 1991. Fans of Burning Spear, they joined in 1995 with Naoyuki Uchida (recording and mixing), guitarists Kei Horiguchi and Keiichi Rikitake, keyboardist Mitsuhiro Toike, and finally Likkle Mai and Ao Inoue on vocals. Two years later, the band released its first work on Olive Disc, highly acclaimed by critics in Japan and Jamaica.
In 1998, Dry & Heavy released the album "One Punch" on Beat Records in Japan, subsequently licensed by the French Musidisc and the English Green Tea. In 2000, they released their third and most famous album, "Full Contact". With a Dub style, it was not difficult to conquer America and the reggae label BSI Records. This album features the standouts "Dawn Is Breaking" and "Heavy Special".
