Frederico Oliveira a.k.a. Freddy Locks, was born on December 9, 1977. He grew up in the mythical Alvalade neighborhood in Lisbon and is part of a generation that made history in the Portuguese punk-rock scene, names like "Censurados", "Ku de Judas", "Tara perdida", "Dalai lume", etc., are all bands that were born or came from Alvalade and with whom Freddy shared many moments of his youth. Freddy started playing music in a punk band at 17. At that time he was fully committed to the anarchist and Okupa movement in Portugal and Spain. In the summer of 1995 he had a series of experiences that changed his life forever. In his words: ""... That summer I found my light, the secret of positive reality. I found what people call "God" and that lives inside all living beings.
"I found my path through the places and people I met and through Reggae music". It was then that Freddy began writing songs and playing and singing in the Lisbon Metro and everywhere he passed. Although his message was anarchist, his voice always sounded like reggae. In 1999 he formed the band "Nature" and joined "20 pás 08". In both cases as lead vocalist and guitarist. With these bands Freddy played at various occupied houses and anarchist events, especially with "20 pás 8" whose sound and message was described by fans as "reggae-punk". This band ended in 2003. In 2004 Freddy recorded his first album with reggae producer Asher Guardian, called "Rootsrockstruggelling". This album was totally independent, but reached Antena3 radio and the song "Wake up" was nominated "Song of the Year" by the program "Radio Fazuma".
Also in 2004, Freddy formed the band "Poormanstyle", a band that even shared the stage with legends "Sly & Robbie" at the Musa festival. In 2006 Freddy started his solo project and recorded the album "Bring up the feeling", on the "Gumalaka" label, the first independent reggae label in Portugal. This album was nominated "Album of the year" by a vote on the sites "Sunshine reggae" and "Zona Reggae". The single "Bring up the feeling" entered the Antena3 radio playlist and reached number one on the most requested chart by the public. The video clip of the same song also entered MTV Portugal's playlist. The album "bring up the feeling" is referenced by critics as proof of the maturing of reggae made in Portugal. On tour through Portugal in 2008, and adding new members to his band, Freddy Locks is now recording his new album and looking for a label to help show his music to the world.
