Iba was born on the island of St. Croix and was christened Charles "Chucky" Encarnacion. Son of a musician, Iba encountered music very early and became involved in its most dynamic forms, from school bands to DJ work, and finally as a Roots Reggae singer. The singer was inspired by legendary figures such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Steel Pulse, and other conscious artists who awakened in him a passion for knowledge and a great interest in Rastafarian teachings.

As a young Rasta, Iba sang at family gatherings, clubs and any event where he could hold the microphone. He studied with some of the best singers on St. Croix and today is applauded for the original singing style he created. Over time, Iba became singer of the band "Front Line Reggae Band", where he quickly earned the title of one of the best singers on the island.

In 1995, Hurricane Marilyn devastated the Virgin Islands, creating great financial hardship for everyone, including Iba, who had to put music in second place and leave the "Front Line Reggae Band". Soon after, he decided to move to Connecticut. After adapting to the rigors of urban life, Iba joined the "Survivor's Band", where he remained singing for 3 years. One year later he met his compatriots from the Virgin Islands – the band Bambu Station.

In 2001, Iba recorded several songs with Bambu Station, including one track selected to open the award-winning worldwide compilation "Talkin Roots I". Today, Iba's music is well known throughout the Caribbean and the United States.
All this success led the artist to sign with Mt. Nebo Records, where he released his first album in July 2003, called "Jah Lion (Children of the Nile)". Considered one of the masterpieces of Modern Roots Reggae, "Jah Lion" won fans and admirers around the world.
