John Brown’s Body is a reggae band formed in Boston, MA and Ithaca, NY (USA) that performs what the group calls “Future Roots Music.” Rooted in reggae, their sound incorporates dub, drum and bass and electronic elements.\r\r\nFormed in 1995, they began with traditional roots reggae foundations that built their reputation; from 2003 onward the band moved toward a more modern blend as Elliot Martin became the lead vocalist.\r\r\nJohn Brown’s Body has shared the stage with a wide range of artists including Dave Matthews Band, The Flaming Lips, STS9, Furthur, Ozomatli, Broken Social Scene and Jurassic 5. Band leader Elliot Martin, drummer Tommy Benedetti and producer Jocko are all vegetarians; Elliot also DJs under the name Duke Blackout.
