Remembering the Classic Show of Leões de Israel

Read article
Formed in the year 2000 by Edu SattaJah and Solano Jacob, Leões de Israel is one of the country's leading reggae bands, recognized by an audience of thousands of Brazilians in this scene. In 2002, a live CD was recorded for promotion entitled "Pilares da Justiça". Surprisingly, the thousand copies sold out and another 15,000 were produced and sold at just one store in São Paulo (Loja Johnny B. Good, in the city center). In 2004/2005, the first studio album was recorded, entirely independent, named "Palavra Viva". A record with strong Jamaican reggae influence, with cohesive lyrics and themes that lead to reflection, it was considered the best national reggae album of that year. More than 6,000 copies were sold in just 3 months, and today this number exceeds 40,000. In 2009, the band finished their third album, entitled "Ethnos Brasilis". A record that explores other musical strands such as rock, soul and rhythm and blues mixed with well-crafted vocal harmonies. This album features a reggae version of the song "Bicicleta" by composer Zé Renato of the group Boca Livre. Completing 13 years in 2013, the band Leões de Israel released their CD and DVD recorded at the end of 2011. "11 anos de reggae pesado" offers a selection of songs from the 3 studio albums and shows all the theatricality and originality of the band in action. It features the special participation of Solano Jacob and a bonus track entitled "Batalha" recorded in partnership with English vocalist David Hinds of the band Steel Pulse.

BACKING BAND

The band toured Brazil appearing at the main events, city festivals and Festivals. Already recognized on the reggae scene, in 2006, Leões de Israel received an invitation to participate in the "Rebel Salute Festival" in Jamaica, being throughout the festival's history the only Brazilian reggae band invited. They also performed alongside names such as: Burning Spear, Thirld Word, Inner Circle, etc. With quality sound, the band gradually conquered its space and the respect of renowned artists in the segment, such as Jamaican singer Gregory Isaacs, who invited them to accompany him on his 2005 and 2007 tours. The shows passed through the North/Northeast of Brazil and some Latin American countries. From the first 2005 tour, the DVD of the "República do Reggae" Festival held in Salvador was released. As a backing band or "support band", they have already collaborated with a series of international reggae singers. With the success of that first tour with Gregory Isaacs, the band was called to accompany other reggae music stars such as Clinton Fearon (2007), Gregory Isaacs again in 2007 and 2009, Pablo Moses (2008), Eek-a-Mouse (2010), Doreen Schaffer (2011), Siddy Ranks (2011), Max Romeo (2010 and 2011) and The Abyssinians (2012 and 2103) and Marcia Griffiths (2013).
