Neil Fraser was born in Guyana and as a boy had an irresistible curiosity about radios and their electronic circuits. He liked to play at taking apart and reassembling the family radio, which caused him many problems at home and earned him the nickname by which he is known worldwide today: Mad Professor.
Nowadays he takes apart and reassembles music in the studio of his Ariwa label in London, a kind of modern temple of dub, a reggae offshoot inseparable from his name. There he works with the biggest names in the genre such as Lee Perry, Sly & Robbie, Dean Fraser, U Roy, Pato Banton, Max Romeo, and also remixes stars from other styles such as Sade, Massive Attack, Beastie Boys.
