Brazilian reggae in the 2000s: the decade that consolidated new bands and expanded the national scene

Read article

Formed by a group of musicians who learned to play their respective instruments with the intention of making the purest Reggae, the band Mato Seco is today one of the greatest forces of Jamaican rhythm in Brazil. With more than a dozen songs on everyone's lips, Mato Seco stands out mainly for highly intelligent lyrics with positive messages that truly seek to bring something more to people's lives, without the use of clichés.

The group comes from Vila Santa Maria, in São Caetano do Sul (São Paulo), and since its beginning has shown incredible growth, both musically and in audience, gathering more and more fans wherever they perform. The name "Mato Seco" refers to resistance, represented both by the strength of nature and its people, who even when oppressed continue resisting and fighting to survive.

Formed by Rodrigo Piccolo (vocals and guitar), Tiago Rezende (drums), João Paz (organ and piano), Osvaldo Ciziniauskas Jr. (double bass), Eric Oliveira (guitar), Carlos Eduardo (vocals and percussion) and Mauro Peres (vocals and percussion), Mato Seco has already released two albums, both of great impact not only for reggae fans but appreciated by lovers of good music.

The new album, "Seco mas não morto", besides original songs, features a cover of "Construção/Deus Lhe Pague" by Poet Chico Buarque. If you don't know the band yet, you will certainly be captivated by Mato Seco's message and roots sound.
