Semillas Reggae is a band formed in 1998 in Peru — Lima — influenced by musicians who came to play genres such as punk, ska and hip hop, but who ended up seeking and reflecting their love for reggae music, entering into total harmony with the other members.
At the end of 1998, the band had its first performance at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of San Marcos. They won over the audience, becoming the first local reggae band to play live after the genre's "BOOM" in the early 1990s.
In 1999, "Semillas de Madiba", as it was originally called, presented its first demo and took part in the Miraflores Rock Contest with more than 300 participants, being the only Reggae act. It ended up among the top 10, where most went on to become established names on Lima's rock scene.
In 2002 the band recorded an EP called "Sembrando Semillas", recorded at Estúdio Telhado. From this work came the first hits and consolidation on the country's reggae scene. Among the artists they have shared the stage with are: Burning Spear, Black Uhuru, Winston Jarrett, Don Carlos, Cultura, Yellowman, Alpha Blondy, Dread Johnny, Gondwana, Los Cafres, New Roots, Los Pericos and Cultura Profética.
