Just as Brazil is the country of football and the United States of basketball, Jamaica is the capital of Reggae in the world, and various individual talents have appeared in the most diverse facets of this wonderful music, as has Swelele. Swelele has already passed through various positions in Reggae, such as band leader and vocalist, tour and studio musician, sound engineer, artist and producer. His musical journey began in Kingston, capital of Jamaica, where he was born. His father, Tony Dacosta, original member of The Skatalites and a highly respected musician, taught Swelele to play guitar from childhood.

At 10 years old he began learning piano, and was a member of the school band from his first year as a student. After finishing high school, Swelele joined his father's band, which at the time was the house band of a famous Hotel on the north coast of Jamaica. Singing in a band six nights a week he gained plenty of experience from a young age, which helped make him a professional. After some years working on the North Coast of Jamaica, Swelele migrated to Los Angeles where he joined the group Small Axe, which quickly became the best and most popular Reggae band in Los Angeles. While working with Small Axe, Swelele also accompanied as keyboardist a diversity of big Reggae names such as Don Carlos, Eek a Mouse, Freddie McGregor, Johnny Osbourne, Leroy Sibbles and Wailing Souls.

As a solo artist, Swelele had the opportunity to perform at a great diversity of events, such as Reggae Sound Splash and Reggae Sumfest in Jamaica, Bob Marley Day in Los Angeles and Hot Crocket in Japan. He has had the opportunity to open shows for Peter Tosh, as at the Roxy Club in Los Angeles and work in the studio with Bunny Wailer. Influenced by names such as Stevie Wonder, Lou Rawls, The Spinners, Glen Rickits, Tabby Diamond and The Wailers, Swelele brings a very large load of feeling in his songs. Currently the artist owns and operates two recording studios, one in Montego Bay in Jamaica and the other in West Palm Beach in Florida, being involved in music production for renowned and emerging artists.
