Taj Weekes' music is more than entertainment. Born and raised in St. Lucia, Weekes is an authentic representative of the new generation of roots reggae. On his most recent album "Deidem", released on his own label Jatta Records, Weekes sings with soul and takes his music to a level of great commitment to the oppressed. Taj is the youngest of his nine siblings and grew up in a family where music was always present. At five years old he was already singing in church, and by eleven he was writing his own songs.
When his older brother became a follower of the Rastafari philosophy, Taj also began to nurture his spiritual side and think with a more universal vision. In every corner of the planet, people have responded to the authenticity of Taj Weekes' spirit, heart and commitment to a world where people can communicate with one another to resolve situations in a non-violent way. The artist also has a non-profit foundation called They Often Cry Outreach, dedicated to helping children through music, sports and other programs.
