Twinkle Brothers in Brazil for the first time: the faith that moves mountains arrives on the Brazilian stage

Read article

In the 60s, the Twinkle Brothers began recording by going to Kingston to try auditions with Coxsone, Prince Buster, Beverly and Treasure Isle, in order to get their work released. They were eager to start their first recording, a solo by Norman called "Somebody Please Help Me", which was recorded by Leslie Kong for the Beverly label. A year later came their first single, "Matthew and Mark".

This single was recorded by Duke Reid on the Treasure Isle label. In 1970, they entered the "Jamaica Festival Song" competition and placed 3rd... behind Hopeton Lewis and the Jamaicans. During this time, the Twinkle were on the Jack Pot label, produced by Bunny Lee. There they directed their work toward greater breadth and evident quality. Recordings with the labels: Dynamic Sounds, Federal Records, Sun Shot and Upsetter.

In 1970, they formed their own recording label: the Twinkle label. The band, very early on, established itself as a complete vocal/instrumental group on Jamaica's north coast. It is a great example for young musicians anywhere in the world, especially since Jamaica's economic situation was already very difficult.

The Twinkle Brothers threw themselves fully into self-releasing, financing their sessions with money from Norman's job as a solo artist. In 1975, the Twinkle released the acclaimed "Rasta Pon Top", which featured the magnificent "Give Rasta Praise", "It Gwine Dreada", "Beat Them Jah Jah" and the great title track "Rasta Pon Top".

In 1997, they signed with Virgin, recently established with the Frontline label. In 1980 the tracks got really heavy, roots roots like: "Never Get Burn", "Since I Threw the Comb Away" and "Jah Kingdom Come". Today, the Twinkle Brothers have 63 albums produced (with a few more on the way!), the "Live" Sunsplash album and video, a live album in Poland, 3 albums on Virgin and one on Quit Storm released last year.

While most bands live in England, the Twinkle Brothers tour Europe, America, Africa, Scandinavia, Poland, Belgium, Spain and other countries. In Europe, the Twinkle Brothers are highly sought after as live attractions, a clear sign that the band is in full flight. Thanks to Jah.
