Gilberto Gil performs the show "Kaya N´Gan Daya" at Praça da Paz (SP)!

After the performances by Gal Costa and Caetano Veloso, it is now the turn of singer and songwriter Gilberto Gil, who continues the celebrations of the ten years of Projeto Pão Music. This year, Pão Music revives the 25 years since the formation of the Bahian quartet "Os Doces Bárbaros".

GIL INVITES...

As special guests Gil invited Brazil's most beloved rocker, singer Rita Lee accompanied by Roberto de Carvalho. Together they are expected to sing songs well known to the general public such as "Ovelha Negra" and "Domingo no Parque", plus other surprises. In addition, Preta Gil, the singer's daughter, makes a special appearance in the show and is expected to perform Táxi pra Bahia. The gathering of all these voices promises to be a memorable spectacle as well. Gilberto Gil will also present songs from his most recent musical work, "Kaya N'Gandaya" where he interprets great Bob Marley classics. The CD Kaya N'Gandaya featured the special participation of vocal group I-Three (Rita Marley, Marcia Griffiths & Judy Mowatt) and the duo Sly & Robbie. In Brazil, the album also received contributions from Samuel Rosa, Henrique Portugal and Os Paralamas do Sucesso. Gilberto Gil and Tom Capone produced the new CD which was recorded at the legendary Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston (Jamaica), by one of Reggae's most renowned sound engineers, Errol Brown.

DOCES BÁRBAROS

The theme of this edition is an important piece of our MPB history: the formation, in the 1970s, of the Bahian quartet Os Doces Bárbaros, composed of Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Gilberto Gil and Maria Bethânia. The artists will sing, throughout the year, separately on the stages of Praça da Paz in Parque do Ibirapuera in São Paulo and on the sands of posto 3 at Praia de Copacabana. In December, they will all meet, which promises to be a historic event in 2002, given that such a revival took 25 years to happen.
