6th edition of the University Reggae Festival (Unireggae) 2003! Check it out!

6th edition
The Cultural Affairs Department of UFMA announced the opening of registrations for the 6th edition of the University Reggae Festival (Unireggae), which will take place on September 5 and 6. The goal of Unireggae, besides promoting the Jamaican rhythm, is to reveal new talents and promote exchange among musicians and performers from all over Brazil. Competing songs must have original, unpublished lyrics and melodies written in Portuguese. Unpublished songs are understood to be those that have never been awarded, recorded or published. Original songs are understood to be those that are not imitations, plagiarism or copies of compositions already existing on the market. Registrations will be open from April 30 to June 15, 2003. Registrations must be made at Palacete Gentil Braga (headquarters of DAC/PREXAE/UFMA), at Rua Grande, 782 - Centro - Phone (098) 232-3901 - Fax: (098) 231-2887, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, Monday through Friday.

HOW TO REGISTER

 a) Fill out the registration form; b) Submit at the time of registration the competing song recorded on cassette tape or CD and the typed lyrics in 5 (five) copies; c) Also bring authorization and a photocopy of the ID of the lyric and music author. d) Composers and performers may register up to two songs, one on each cassette tape or CD; however, only one may be selected; e) Material submitted at registration will not be returned to its authors, becoming part of the DAC/UFMA archive. The Festival Coordination will appoint a committee that will select up to 20 (twenty) songs from those registered for a single elimination round and will select 10 (ten) songs for the final. A Technical Judging Committee, composed of at least 3 (three) and at most 7 (seven) members, will choose the 3 (three) best songs of the festival, in addition to indicating the best performer. In case of a tie, the tied contestants will be considered winners. The Selection and Technical Judging Committees will evaluate 4 (four) criteria, namely: a) Melody - b) Lyrics - c) Arrangement - d) Performance. At the Final Session a Popular Consultation will be held to choose the best song in the audience's opinion, by distributing 100 (one hundred) ballots with the names of the 10 (ten) finalist compositions, and the one with the highest vote count must be chosen. The Selection and Judging Committees are sovereign in their decisions. The winning songs will receive as official prize the BOB MARLEY TROPHY. Complementary prizes in cash and/or gifts should also be granted, the list of which will be announced up to 5 (five) days before the event. Each participant will have at their disposal to defend their song a band formed by 5 (five) musicians (guitar, bass, keyboard, percussion and drums), and other musicians may be added at the discretion of the song defenders (at no cost to the event production). Each participant will have a maximum of 5 (five) minutes to defend their song. The order of presentation of the songs will be established by lottery to be conducted by the organizing committee at the final general rehearsal, to be confirmed up to 48 hours before it takes place. The elimination and final phases will begin at 9 p.m. at the official venue (to be defined in due course), and competing candidates must appear at the Festival venue no more than 2 (two) hours in advance. Failure of participants to appear on the days set for rehearsals and the festival will result in their elimination, with no replacement. Registration implies acceptance of this regulation and the administrative instructions proposed by the event organizing committee. Omitted cases will be resolved by the Organizing Committee.
