Meeting of Gil with Belafonte was moving! Check it out!

Meeting of

The personality of the year is also Brazilian — singer and minister Gilberto Gil, honored for his "global impact in the fields of music and culture." The tribute to Gil took place this Tuesday in Miami Beach.

"This is exactly like childhood dreams coming true," Gil told journalists at the entrance of the hotel where the gala party took place — "Because when I was a boy, I dreamed when I listened to other people's music, the classics of popular Latin American singers, like Lucho Gatica, like Cuba's Sonora Matancera. I dreamed that one day I would be able to make music and be heard by young people."

With a sparkle in his eyes, Gil held the statuette in the shape of a crystal obelisk with his name engraved on it. "For me it is an honor to receive an award. I come from 40 years of work, with a contribution made with love and enthusiasm, and to have this recognition is very important," said the minister-singer, who was moved when he met American singer Harry Belafonte, who gave him a strong hug and a kiss on the cheek.

On Wednesday night, Gil is competing for his third Grammy with the album "Kaya N'Gan Daya - Ao Vivo", with songs by Bob Marley, in the best Brazilian contemporary pop album category. The Tuesday night gala honored Gilberto Gil, who was moved when he embraced veteran American singer Harry Belafonte.
