Kiko Perez (ex-Natiruts) presents his award-winning solo work!

In March 2002, rocker Kiko Peres amicably left one of Brazil's most popular reggae bands, Natiruts, to pursue other paths. In April of that same year, he entered the studio to record his 2nd instrumental solo album, released last October by the GRV Discos label. "Samba-funk" was very well received by specialized critics (Guitar Player, Dec/2002 and CoverGuitarra, Feb/2003) and was chosen as best national CD of 2002 by the Santa Catarina site SongWeb and last May won the Dynamite Independent Music Award in the category of best instrumental CD of 2002. On November 28, Kiko returns for the second time to the Na Mata Café stage to repeat the highly praised show held on September 17.

At his first performance, Kiko invited his former Natiruts bandmates to perform a Tribute to Jimi Hendrix together. This time Kiko invites singer Russo, a São Paulo revelation, to play some Rock classics together, such as Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Credence Clearwater Revival and others. Kiko Peres started playing guitar at age 12. His first influences came from rock classics such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, AC/DC, Van Halen, Kiss and Iron Maiden.
Some time later, he discovered Stevie Ray Vaughan, and through him began diving into blues, black music and funk, rediscovering sounds like Earth, Wind & Fire and Kool & the Gang, which he had liked since childhood. Through Stevie Ray he also discovered Jimi Hendrix, who remains his greatest idol as a musician. In 1991, he went to study at G.I.T (Guitar Institute of Technology) in Los Angeles, California, graduating a year later (in March 1992).
Back in Brazil, he joined the funk-rock band Pravda in Brasília. He participated in the first CD released in 1995 by the defunct Banguela Records. Still in Brasília, he organized and played in tributes to Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix, and more recently, in the Lenny Kravitz cover band.
But it was as guitarist of one of Brazil's most popular reggae bands, Natiruts (formerly Nativus), that Kiko Peres became known nationally. Three releases with the band sold more than 500,000 copies combined. The last, titled Verbalize, came out in 2001.
The official departure from Natiruts occurred in March 2002, so he could dedicate himself to other projects, including recording this second instrumental rock CD. However, ties with Natiruts were not completely severed. Kiko co-produced, together with Tom Capone, the band's fourth CD. In April 2002, right after leaving the band, the guitarist entered the studio and in two weeks recorded his Samba Funk CD (GRV Discos). Taking advantage of his trip to Rio in May and July this year to co-produce Natiruts' fourth CD, Kiko mixed his solo CD with renowned producer and friend Tom Capone.
Samba Funk features excellent musicians from Brasília on each track, plus special appearances by PJ on bass (Jota Quest), Ary Dias on percussion (former Cor do Som and currently in Rita Lee's band) and former bandmates Bruno and Luis (Natiruts).
