Band Planta e Raiz releases new work and bets on hits from the 80s! Learn more!
Band Planta
"Facing the world". That is the title of the second CD by Planta & Raiz, a São Paulo band that has already earned a permanent place among the most acclaimed Brazilian reggae artists. Produced by Rick Bonadio and Rodrigo Castanho, the album features, among its fifteen tracks, a reggae version of "A dois passos do paraíso", a major hit by Blitz in the 80s, which has everything it takes to be a hit in 2004.
"Musically, we are more mature and we prepared better before going into the studio. It was a little different from our first CD, Este é o remédio, which resulted from what was happening at the shows", summarizes vocalist Zeider Pires, who is also the band's main lyricist. He co-writes, together with the other members, the other fourteen songs on the new work.
Despite the maturity, the band demonstrates the same ideology and the same style from the beginning of their career. As in the song "Jovens", some lyrics express indignation and suggest changes, which is characteristic of Jah's rhythm. "Glória a Deus" and "Quem foi" are like thanksgivings, they speak of God. The CD title track, "De cara pro mundo", the songs "Vai moleque", "Ondas" and "Como se fosse" speak of reality, of how to face challenges and bounce back, their lyrics value individual strength, style and attitude, they are the songs that best translate the identity of Planta & Raiz.
But, is it possible to imagine a reggae CD without that swing and contagious rhythm? "Roots reggae groove" is the best answer and, according to Zeider, is what defines the band's style. "To no barato", "Vamos dançar" and "Sempre que eu sair" are also songs capable of bringing the greatest vibe.
As the king Bob Marley said, "...some people have the power to love", and, as it could not be missing, "É preciso perdoar" and "Pra você" are the two ballads present in this new work. The first speaks of how time can act and heal wounds, the second is like a love declaration. "Se liga, Natty Dread" addresses a theme still controversial in the 21st century, prejudice. "We need to stop criticizing and judging, we have to overcome differences", explains Zeider. Those who have already attended a Planta & Raiz show have probably already heard this song, which was also part of the Circuito Reggae CD in 2002.
Definitely, De cara pro mundo has everything it takes to be a great success. Without commercial appeals, the songs are, in fact, sincere messages of peace, so necessary in today's world. Certainly, the band Planta & Raiz continues to listen to the voice that comes from the heart.
