What was expected happened! Sean Paul is the winner of the 2003 Grammy for Best Reggae Album!

As expected, DJ Sean Paul was the winner of the 2003 Best Reggae Album award. Blending Hip-Hop, Rhythm & Blues and Reggae, Sean Paul left behind big names like Wayne Wonder, Buju Banton, Burning Spear and Third World.
Sean was also nominated in two other categories: "Best New Artist" and "Best Solo R&B/Rap Album". Of the five nominees, only Burning Spear had previously won a Grammy. He took home the Best Reggae Album award in 2000 with "Calling Rastafari". Third World and Buju Banton had been nominated before, but never won.

Sean Paul's album has already sold more than 2 million copies. This reflects the new direction reggae is taking: artists who play traditional Roots Reggae are increasingly forgotten by the media at awards like this. Reggae only began to gain Grammy recognition in 1984, with Black Uhuru's Anthem winning the category in 1985.
