"Mission" Accomplished! Natiruts a smash at launch of new album "Nossa Missão"!
Natiruts, one of the most beloved bands in Brazilian reggae, has been taking important steps in writing its history. Already holding a legion of fans, and sensing market trends, the band returns to the independent scene and has lately surprised critics and the public. Today, Natiruts has its roots closely tied to the psychedelia of Dub, one of the many branches of reggae. The launch show for its latest album, with a Surforeggae promotion (take part), was scheduled to begin at 11:00 pm at Via Funchal, a renowned venue in São Paulo. Upon entering the floor, the reception was warmly delivered by the "Selector" Yellow P, unleashing the full weight of his "arsenal" of heavy tracks on the decks. Dub, Dancehall, Raggamuffin — in short, the full coverage of a vibe that Natiruts currently breathes and explores on this 5th album entitled "Nossa Missão". When the band's entrance was announced, a deafening uproar emerged — "Nariturs, Natiruts..." — and they kicked off a devastating sequence of classics and, no doubt, "future classics." Although it was a launch show, obviously the established hits were the main highlight in terms of audience response. Their greatest successes received an "extra touch" in their structure, such as the weight of the bass and the punch of the drums. The sequence "Naticongo" and "Surfista do Lago Paranoá" were breathtaking, and that was only the beginning. A journey through the latest albums was started with "Meu Reggae é Roots" and "Liberdade pra dentro da Cabeça". No comment needed on the hysterical effects caused... but I can't resist: the house came down! "Praia dos Golfinhos" and the delicious groove of "Quero ser feliz" preceded the killer sequence of "Palmares 1999", "Andei Só" and "Deixa o Menino Jogar". The audience had nothing to ask for, because everything was there... a show made for fans! Alexandre Carlo paused the performance for a moment for a more than deserved tribute. Tonho Gebara, the band's former guitarist who passed away just over a year ago (read article), is remembered with 15 seconds of a blend of applause, shouts and whistles, and the performance of a song of his authorship, which ended up becoming one of Natiruts' greatest classics, "Bob Falou". Producer Tom Capone, who died in a motorcycle accident in Los Angeles in September 2004, is also honored with great emotion. Mónica Agena, the current guitarist, maintains the quality of the position with great energy and charisma. On the return for the encore, they played "Leve com Você", highly requested during the show, and two more songs that featured special guests. "Toca Fogo", present on the album "Nossa Missão", shines with the presence of Funk Búia, from Família 7 Velas, lending his distinctive Raggamuffin vocals. Finally, Marcello Mira on vocals, and his brother Raphael Mira on percussion, both from the band Alma D´Jem, perform the public domain classic, "O Carcará e a Rosa". After the show, the band receives many fans in the dressing rooms, and with great attention and warmth, fulfills all requests for photos and autographs. Extending the camaraderie, the celebration of the successful night continued at the Riviera bar, located in the upscale Moema area, where many fans, friends and other artists attended yet another contribution from Natiruts to Brazilian reggae.
