Hornet's nest: MTV Magazine pejoratively refers to Bob Marley's mother, Cedella Booker, as a "Pothead Mom"!
The national media is already well known for "gaffes" and poorly written reports with dubious content. The newest one that caused great discussion and controversy was an interview carried out by MTV Magazine with Cedella Marley (Bob Marley's mother). The interview, whose title is "Mãeconheira", is part of Revista MTV nº 58. Using quotes throughout the text that could be considered pejorative and offensive about the person (Cedella Marley), Revista MTV strengthens the statement "It's difficult to like something in Brazil without being associated with some stereotype". Being able to value and ask interesting questions to the 80-year-old woman, MTV Magazine restricted itself to quoting phrases with content such as "Cedella Marley, Bob's mother, is all nature. The 80-year-old lady, lights one every day and says that marijuana is prescribed in the Bible. Save the green".
It is not news that the magazine's target audience is young people from the upper middle class. A report like this only contributes to denigrating the image of Reggae and making people continue with the old association "Reggae x Marijuana", something that most people who experience reggae know how to separate perfectly. It is regrettable that in the 21st century people still have this mentality and continue to sell an image of a "product" without first consulting its "instruction manual", that is, without knowing what it represents for the consumer.
