Hebraica, the famous Jewish club in São Paulo, welcomed an illustrious member of this community... Matthew Miller, or for many, Matisyahu. In recent months, nothing else has been said about new things in the world of reggae, and the star has been achieving success after success with his "reggae-hip-hop". After a youth dedicated to self-knowledge, Rabbi Lubavitch, a kind of guide for Matthew, gave the entire structure and discipline peculiar to Judaism, being one of the people most responsible for its transformation into Matisyahu (Click and read more about his story).
On January 31st, thousands of people from different religions came together to hear a single message and a single sound. In an environment of beautiful people everywhere, anticipation was felt in the air... and when the name of the night discreetly appeared on stage to see how the club was going, the crowd couldn't contain themselves. A few minutes of soundcheck, the lights went out... he was ready!
The show opens with "Lord Raise me Up" after demonstrating a powerful vocal from the singer. The audience was ecstatic! The follow-up came with "Chop’em Down" and "Exaltation", both present on the 2005 album "Live at Stubb’s". The public was delirious with the discreet but striking performance of Matisyahu, who responded with "Time of Your Song" and "Close your Eyes". Matisyahu saved his biggest hits for last, and then sent out a killer sequence with "Youth", "Jerusalem" and "King Without a Crow".
On the way back to the encore, Matisyahu shows one of his specialties, the BeatBox, a method that uses the mouth, voice and nasal cavity to reproduce drum sounds, DJ effects, etc. With strong and dynamic beats, the gym went crazy. "Aish Tamid" and "Heights" came next to close the presentation. Little by little, people left the place with a satisfied expression, and some stayed to enjoy a Bob Marley that began to roll around in the gym's boxes. Now all we can do is wait for the "Soldados do Exército de Jah"... S.O.J.A. in March! Stay tuned to our schedule. Until next time.
