NEW YORK (Reuters) Rita Marley is doing the executive production of her late husband Bob Marley's first cinebiography, and if everything goes as she wants, the daughter-in-law of reggae's icon, R&B singer, Lauryn Hill, will play her part in the film. The Weinstein Company will produce and distribute a large screen version of Rita's autobiography, "No Woman No Cry: My Life with Bob Marley" (2004), which reports the childhood of the musician and the tumultuous 15 years of their marriage, which ended with Bob's death in 1981 due to cancer. "Lauryn would be ideal to play my part," said Rita. "She sees my life as hers." Bob Marley's son and Janet Hunt, Rohan, is married to former Fugee professionalist, who practically disappeared from the music scene after his 1998 solo debut album "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill", awarded Grammy. Lauryn Hill will review the adaptation of the book being written by Lizzie Borden ("Working Girls"), who is in Jamaica completing the script. Still untitled, the film by producer Rudy Langlais ("Hurricane -- The Hurricane") is scheduled to start shooting in early 2009, with probable release at the end of that year. Langlais said the film will be an epic romance that will cover the lives of the Marleys and the attempt suffered by the couple: "It's a miracle Rita's still here after being shot in the head," he commented. Bob Marley had 13 children, several of whom were the fruits of extramarital cases. At least part of the project will be run in Jamaica, but other locations will also be used to enjoy tax discounts. The film can reach the cinemas before Martin Scorsese's authorized documentary film about the singer, whose release is scheduled for February 6, 2010, when Bob Marley would be 65. The musician will be represented by two actors, one of them playing his role at the age of 15 and the other representing Marley as an adult. The soundtrack may have original songs, covers sung by an actor or a fusion of both, in the style of what was done in "Ray". Rita Marley says her grandson Stefan is the singer's double and would be perfect for the role.
