A day dedicated to reggae. That is how March 13 will unfold at Praia de Ipitanga. For the first time, Lauro de Freitas welcomes international reggae acts and a large-scale event like Bob Marley Day. Featuring names such as California's Groundation and Jamaica's Israel Vibration, the event is expected to create jobs for more than 800 people in the region. "This will be an excellent leisure option for the area," assures Chico Franco, secretary of Labor, Sports and Leisure of Lauro de Freitas.
Besides international acts, national and local bands will perform, including Red Meditation, Aroots, Family Reggae, Kayman and Semente da Paz, Sine Calmon, Mato Seco, Planta e Raiz and Diamba. The novelty of this edition is the venue — an arena set up on Ipitanga beach. This edition will offer more than 12 hours of reggae and special tributes to King Bob Marley.
Groundation: One of the three biggest bands in the new generation of world reggae. From Sonoma, California, the band blends jazz and blues characteristics with roots reggae.
The name "Groundation" comes from the effort for all people to reach the same level, so they can educate and learn from one another without hierarchy.
Israel Vibration: After Bob Marley's death, Israel Vibration long held the status of the world's number-one reggae representative. Legitimate in everything they produce, Israel Vibration & Roots Radics produced some of the greatest reggae albums ever released.
Diamba: Diamba's history includes three albums and one DVD. In 13 years on the road, Diamba has performed countless times in the capital and interior of Bahia, as well as tours in Rio de Janeiro and the interior of Minas Gerais.
Planta & Raiz: Planta e Raiz is a reggae band formed in 1998 to play covers of Bob Marley, Gilberto Gil and Edson Gomes. In 2001, on the Via Funchal stage, they opened for the band that crowned the King of Reggae — The Wailers — for an audience of 7,000 in São Paulo. In 2005 they released a live DVD.
Mato Seco: Band formed in 2002 in São Paulo's ABC region, under strong influence of the philosophy of goodness and justice. Mato Seco develops objective work connected to reggae's truth.
Sine Calmon: Bahian Sine Calmon began his career as a musician in the 1980s in the group "Remanescentes". After the group split, he formed Morrão Fumegante. Influenced by songs of Bob Marley and Jimmy Hendrix, Sine's work debuted with the CD "Fogo na Babilônia".
