Matisyahu and the audience became a single attraction at Via Funchal! See more at Surforeggae!
On this last April 11, Via Funchal received the reggae star who crossed the barriers of the Jewish community and won fans all over the world. After the opening with the national rap/hip-hop band Squat, at 20:50h Matisyahu enters, delivering a sensational hardcore! The audience welcomes the orthodox Jewish vocalist Matthew Miller (Matisyahu) with indescribable excitement. The reception was so strong that Matisyahu decides to do a "mosh", that is, a jump over the crowd. Then, Matisyahu returns to the stage with the help of the audience and opens the show with "Illegal Dub". Continuing, Matisyahu and his band played other hits like "Smash Lies" and "Youth" (which made the audience sing every word along with the Vocalist), and to make the atmosphere more energized and full of good vibrations, the singer begins a kind of mantra, a prayer, which left many in the crowd with their eyes closed as if they were meditating. Between one song and another, Matisyahu delivered twice one of his skills, BeatBox, a technique that consists of making drum, bass and other effect sounds with the mouth. With the help of his band (Jonah David on drums, Josh Werner on keyboards and bass, Aaron Dugan on guitar), who besides playing their instruments made high-quality sound effects, Matisyahu performed these two beatbox arrangements with perfection. And to give a special touch to the show, Matisyahu sings exceptionally "Rastaman Chant" by Bob Marley. After playing "We Will walk", the band comes with the big hit "Jerusalem", followed by "Motivate" and "Chop em Down". And to make São Paulo shake and make this show be remembered in the lives of all who were present, Matisyahu breaks the barrier between stage and crowd, starting to pull his fans up to the stage, who packed the stage singing and dancing. After a quick break, the band returns to play "Kodesh". Right after, another sensational scene happens. All the lights go out while the vocalist sings softly, and in the crowd a few hundred lighters lit up gave a magical view to the place, and with this striking scene the band closes the night with the hit "King withou a Crown".
