Cedella Marley will dress Jamaica for the London 2012 Olympic Games!

We teamed up with Cedella Marley, reggae costume designer royalty, to create the uniform that the Jamaica Athletics team will wear at the next Olympic Games, Londres 2012.

The daughter of the reggae icon, the Jamaican Bob Marley, will also be in charge of designing the versions for the podium and ceremonies of the next Olympic Games. Your designs will be for the complete team (men and women), which includes the fastest man in the world, three-time gold medalist for Jamaica and athlete for PUMA, Usain Bolt.

This collaboration with the eldest daughter of the Jamaican dynasty further emphasizes our commitment to this Caribbean nation in terms of its cultural heritage, its contributions to music and its unprecedented dedication to athletics.

“It's truly an honor to design this collection for my home country and my country's team” said Cedella Marley. "It's not even a dream come true because I never dreamed this would be possible. I did track and field when I was in high school, at Jamaica, and I'm still a big fan of Jamaican Athletics; so having the responsibility of creating these uniforms for our athletes is incredible. I admire what PUMA is doing at Jamaica over the years and the Marley family has that same philosophy of giving back. I think this alliance will be legendary.”

Maintaining the PUMA DNA, the collection will incorporate high-tech styles and cuts that will improve athletes' performance. Taking inspiration from the intense colors and designs of Jamaica, as well as its African roots, Cedella's designs will certainly create a lot of talk around the world during the summer of 2012.

“I can’t imagine anyone else designing our Olympic uniforms than Cedella”, assures Usain Bolt. "PUMA got it right... partnering with a legendary Jamaican. She's a great costume designer and in her soul the spirit of our nation, through the Marley family. It's going to be totally inspiring to race in Londres with all this energy around me."

The PUMA Olympic collection will also feature a full line of clothing that will be available in PUMA stores around the world. A small part of the collection will be available with limited distribution in August 2011, coinciding with Campeonato Mundial IAAF 2011, which will take place on Coréia.

"We will carry out a rigorous selection process of material and design, to ensure the performance of the t-shirts and thus meet the needs of world-class athletes who have Jamaica", afirmou Cedella. “They will have to adjust to their body and they will have to feel like a second skin. After all, we don't want to be responsible for Bolt not reaching the finish line first”
