Senegalese superstar Youssou N’Dour is looking to explore reggae further with new songs on his next album, after paying tribute to Jamaican singer Bob Marley on his latest release, "Dakar-Kingston".
The initiative is a change in musical form for N’Dour, who led the advancement of mbalax, a frenetic popular music driven by complex Senegalese drum rhythms, with his band, Super Étoile de Dakar.

N’Dour now wants to establish a stronger connection between the predominantly Jamaican band used on “Dakar-Kingston” and Super Étoile in order to more deeply explore the relationship between reggae and African music.
My thoughts now are about the true connection between the two bands, between Super Étoile and reggae music. Maybe it will be more African..." - said the calm and attentive N’Dour.
"A long time ago, when the slaves left Africa, the music left too, so when we listen to Cuban music or reggae, we feel that this music is part of us."
