Recreating legendary reggae covers! Discover photographer Alex Bartsch's incredible idea!
That London is one of the great birthplaces of Jamaican reggae is nothing new to anyone. Several artists from the Island have lived and recorded there, and with that, British photographer Alex Bartsch had a brilliant idea.
(Smiley Culture, 32 years later)
His research work began in 2014, the year in which Alex began collecting reggae album covers that were photographed in London, also identifying the locations where these images were originally captured. More than 40 covers have already been located. Some places I found easily, but others took months... work worthy of a detective! I cycled from south to north London... it was an adventure! I ended up illustrating a true and historical map of reggae music in London. - explains Alex.

He visited these places and re-photographed the records, framing them in the local landscape. The result of this will be a fantastic 112-page photo book. Among the covers found are iconic artists such as John Holt, Peter Tosh, Smiley Culture, Pat Kelly, Al Campbell and many others.
