Forró do Marley! Bahia band releases EP with classics by the king of reggae in forró rhythm!
Considered one of the most traditional roots forró groups in Bahia, Forró no Kilo turns 15 and prepared a Commemorative Anniversary EP: "Forró no Kilo canta Bob Marley". FNK, as friends affectionately call it, blends the two genres with plenty of authenticity and priority, a research-driven work diving into the universe of forró and reggae.
(EP cover)
Forró and Reggae are sister rhythms with significant relevance in their rhythmic and contextual similarity. Beyond the rhythms that intersect in a cadential flirt of the highest affinity, both carry in their essence love, protest, and social critique. Reggae brings equality, freedom, and respect in its lyrics, just like Forró, which portrays the northeast drought, migration to major centers, love, and the pain of a people suffering from lack of opportunity. In 1972, maestro Dominguinhos, on tour with singer and songwriter Gilberto Gil, heard Bob Marley for the first time and commented that "if you put a triangle into reggae's groove, it would become a xote."
(Listen to the version of "Satisfy My Soul")
Choosing songs to honor king Bob Marley was very difficult, given his extensive discography of beautiful tracks. What really guided the EP's selection were the songs that marked the band's 15-year journey.
