The month of November marks a period of reflection on black consciousness in Brazil. The story of Zumbi and Quilombo dos Palmares not only refers to a past of resistance and autonomy, but also calls us to think about the struggle of black women and men in the country. If ZUMBI's name, which was once forgotten, is remembered today on November 20th, so many others still remain forgotten. It is with this thought and with the compass pointed towards the South, that Paulo Dionísio releases “O Espírito dos Lanceiros”, his first solo album.
With more than 30 years of career, Paulo Dionísio is the vocalist and founder of the band Produto Nacional, one of the pioneers in reggae from Rio Grande do Sul. In this work, he rescues the memory of the Black Lancers, enslaved warriors who joined the ranks of the Farroupilha army and were shamefully betrayed and killed in the episode known as the Porongos Massacre.
In addition to paying homage to the memory of ancestors, the album also celebrates the union of several musicians around a project that began five years ago. After writing the song "Asas do smile", which deals with self-motivation, the work began to take shape and, as Paulo Dionísio says, it started to be built with “several hands and hearts”.

"The Spirit of the Lancers presents my influences, my thoughts and my feelings. There is the composer, the singer, and the human being Paulo Dionísio. It is a work done by many hearts and hands. I feel blessed, because since the beginning of the process in 2015, a good number of people have gotten involved, motivated by the desire to see my dream come true.”
The album features eleven compositions by authors directly linked to Dionísio through ties of friendship, admiration and respect, such as Geda, Silvio Oliveira, Raggamano Koyah and Luis Vagner Guitarreiro, who also provides the musical direction and arrangements.
Fauzi Beydoun (Tribo de Jah), Ras Bernardo (first vocalist and founder of the band Cidade Negra) and Celso Moretti make special appearances on three tracks on this album, which is executive produced by Carrasco Produções.
O Espírito dos Lanceiros will be presented on November 19th at 6pm on the Showlivre online program, and will soon be available on digital platforms.Category
