Formed in 1999 in Vila Isabel, Rio de Janeiro, Ponto de Equilíbrio arose from eight musicians with different personalities united by authentic roots reggae. The band became a major reference in Brazilian reggae for reclaiming its roots and using music as a socio‑cultural form of resistance.\r\r\nTheir lyrics, written by the band members, convey messages of equality, love and justice consistent with Rastafari philosophy. The sound blends dub and samba with rhythms drawn from capoeira de Angola, maculelê, salsa and maracatu.\r\r\nThe band’s name expresses their aim: the balance between sky and earth, positive and negative, good and evil — “the point we all seek and to which we will return when our mission in this life is finished,” the musicians explain.
