DubVersão and Afetos bring the gathering of Jamaican Sound Systems to Vila Madalena!

The collective formed by musicians, artists, DJs, MCs and dub lovers settles at a fixed address in Vila Madalena. Inspired by the sound systems that emerged in Jamaica in the early 1970s — when people gathered to set up a "sound system" in the streets — DUBVERSÃO celebrates the spirit of fellowship in this form of urban intervention. After a year of successful open-air experience on the streets of the Pompéia neighborhood in São Paulo, DUBVERSÃO is preparing its indoor version. Maintaining the same spirit of fellowship shown in the streets, guests responsible for democratizing the night will always be invited — and although based on dub music and culture, it is not restricted to the style. In this way, the collective intends to fund DUBVERSÃO NA RUA, which will become itinerant (see schedule below). For the event's debut on April 1, DUBVERSÃO invites AFETOS, returning to the stage after time spent in the studio researching and producing new music to be presented at this notable gathering. Samba, afoxé, bumba-meu-boi and maracatu, with Jamaican roots reggae, dub, toast and ska. With Brazilian and Jamaican roots, Afetos produced its first fruit: the CD Nação Ameaçada, which sold more than two thousand copies even without a major label behind it. At shows, the band's songs are presented alongside reggae classics such as Gilberto Gil, Jorge Ben, Black Uhuru, Gregory Isaacs, among others. Kinky Reggae, by Bob Marley, became "Quem qué raggae?" — in an old version by Afetos. Perhaps this free adaptation of the verse is a key to understanding what this band has been doing since 1996, when it began performing in São Paulo: reggae mixed with Brazilian music.
