Sunday, June 19th, 3 pm, the capital of São Paulo will welcome, on the SESC Interlagos stage, two icons of world music: Manu Chao, French-Spanish World Pop musician; and Muslim Reggae singer Tiken Jah Fakoly. The two artists share the stage in a show that mixes songs from Fakoly's latest album, titled "Coup de Gueule", and songs by Manu Chao. The artists mix rhythms, lend boldness and a critical stance on political and social issues. The show will be held on the Campo de Areia Stage, outdoors, with capacity for 15 thousand people. Tickets, which cost from R$2.00 to R$6.00, can be purchased in advance at any SESC unit.

Tiken Jah Fakoly

Tiken Jah Fakoly, a Muslim from the Dioula ethnic group, has been on the road since 1991. His career began at a theater in his hometown of Odienné, in the northwest of Côte d'Ivoire, close to the borders with Guinea and Mali. His work features a repertoire of reggae songs, mixed with different aspects of world music, influenced by talents such as Alpha Blondy and Manu Dibango. In its fusions, even Arabic music reveals itself as a good companion for reggae. Its lyrics convey an idea of resistance and strength, sung in English, French and Dioula. Composer and political activist, Tiken went into exile in France where he composes and produces his records, having become one of the main artists of the genre today.

Manu Chao

Manu Chao, representative of World Pop music, had his work shaped by multiple cultural influences. Son of Spaniards and born in France, he was influenced by the London punk scene as a teenager. The mixture in Manu Chao's work resulted in the work of the group Mano Negra. The success of the group's first single, the independent "Mala Vida", led to a contract with Virgin Records. The group, however, ended in 1995, after a tour in Latin America, the band's move to Spain and the formation of Radio Bemba Sound System. Chao returned to Latin America then, composing and singing here and there. The result of this period was the album "Clandestino" (1998). In 2001, Chao released "Proxima Estación: Esperanza".
