The bass wizard says goodbye! Wailers bassist Aston "Family Man" Barrett dies.
Bassist Aston “Family Man” Barrett, an essential musician in the career of Bob Marley and the Wailers and considered one of the greatest architects of Jamaican music, passed away this Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the age of 77. The information was confirmed by one of his sons, Aston Barrett Jr., who played his own father in the feature film "One Love", which tells part of Bob Marley's story. With heavy hearts, we share the news of the passing of our beloved Aston ‘Family Man’ Barrett after a long medical battle. This morning, the world lost not only an iconic musician and the backbone of the Wailers, but a remarkable human being whose legacy is as immense as his talent. Our family asks for privacy during this challenging time, as words cannot express our profound loss”, Aston Jr. posted.

But Aston did not contribute only to Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, and other Jamaican artists. Icons and talents from other nationalities were blessed by his masterful touch - among them Alpha Blondy, whose biggest hit ("Jerusalem") features Aston's creation. In 2021, Aston Barrett received the Order of Distinction, one of the most important honors in Jamaica. His sound is eternal and will continue bringing joy to millions of people. Rest in peace.
