On June 16, 2005, spirits were high for a presentation full of peculiar elements. Rhythm, sensuality, and all the morals of the "multi-platinum" Sean Paul! The guy is coming with everything in this trip to Brazil, and has been reaping the rewards all over the world. After scoring several hits in the United States, and winning the 2003 Grammy for best reggae album, it's time for US to taste a little of all this success. The Olympia, a traditional music venue in São Paulo, was gradually taken over by the public, and the highlight was the women's team, showing up in large numbers. In Brazilian clubs, artists exclusively in the hip-hop style such as 50Cent, Eminen, Dmx, Ja Rule, etc., are a great success, which caused DanceHall to have an almost immediate positive response, due to the similarity in their musical structure. When Sean Paul is announced, the delirium is general. The Jamaican artist enters the scene with incredible energy, surrounded by two backing vocals and a group of dancers who abused sensuality in their choreography. There wasn't one that stood still in front of Sean's vocal agility and the imposing beat typical of DanceHall. When songs like "Gimme the Light" and "Shake That Thing" were performed, the Olympia women showed all their swagger in steps that would take anyone's breath away, including Sean Paul himself, who constantly praised the beauty of Brazilian women. "Get Busy" left the crowd excited, but two songs on the album "Dutty Rock" were the ones that caused the greatest expectation. "I'm Still in Love", unfortunately without Sasha on vocals, exploded on Brazilian radio, which put Sean Paul on the country's charts once and for all. What few people know is that this song is from a huge 70s reggae hit with Alton Ellis, on the album Sings Rock And Soul, which in turn also uses Alton Ellis' original base. Another song that followed the same path, especially because the original recording features none other than Beyoncé Knowles (leader of Destiny’s Child) on vocals, was "Baby Boy", top of the charts to this day here. If you feel like enjoying this true spectacle, Sean Paul has three more performances here in Brazil. See the dates below and see you next time.
